Jumble Time 02.06.08

Did a poster for the Jumble Sale at Start The Bus that I play records at with my friend Richard. Usually he does the posters but we decided to mix things up a little, I lied to him and said I had it done but I didn't, so I had to do it in the space of a couple hours yesterday morning. And here it is!

I Can't Wait To Leave Bristol 06.05.08

Just on the coach back from London where me and the publication group at Bush House have just been to print their end of year publication. Big big thanks out to Chris, Joe, Jen and Lis - the four did an amazing job working together on it under the crack of my art-direction whip, and also to all the third years who contributed to the publication content.

Great stuff, it will be even better when we get round to distributing it. If you'd like a copy then don't hesitate to get in touch, they are free.

The photo to the left is only a portion of all the test prints that went to waste on a long conveyor belt of doom.

Back From The 'Dam 27.04.08

I've just got back from Rotterdam, Enschede and Amsterdam (Netherlands) where I was following up the AKI Wall of Statements Project which I was co-running with the Enschede Academy of Visual Arts and Design. Had an amazing time and saw lots of interesting art/design.

Also had a chance to see my AKI poster placed up on a wall amongst other peoples, as well as posters done by the students whom I mentored at UWE during their contributions. (Chris Clarke says I'm not a mentor I'm a fucking mento - ta chuck). Fun times were had anyway.

One Speed - All I Need 15.04.08

Successful design - keep it simple. Got myself a new ride, which I managed to fall off and injure myself within the second day! Still though, this is my new baby. Named after a girl I went out with for 3 hours in good old year 5 (primary school). Heres to hoping this relationship lasts a bit longer.

Anyway the design bit comes in the fact this is a converted Falcon 10 Speed, then stripped back and painted by me. She was a murky white previously with some rainbow stripes now painted choco brown, yum yum.

Can't get over just how amazing a bike that has been totally sttripped back looks. With everything removed, all you got is it's most basic elements that make it function - no extra gears, no unnecessary clutter, no tacky decals, just a sleek, simple ride.

T-shirt Printing 03.04.08

Printed my first t-shirt today. Drew lots and lots of lines with one of my favourite pens, transferred to a screen and printed.

Made originally as a gift for a friend. There are two to buy if you'd like, one in small and another in large. Email me if you'd like to buy one.

New approaches to tagging. 03.04.08

My housemate Jess recently had some new creative additions to her bicycle. Despite it being quite harsh, I also admire the taggers applied thinking. I'm surprised more bikes and objects aren't covered like this.

AKI Poster. 02.04.08

I've just finished my contribution to a collaborative poster project with the Enschede Academy of Visual Arts and Design in The Netherlands. It was a real open brief - make a poster with a statement - about anything.

I did this in a few hours - it was centred around a Neil Young lyric which I believe could be appropriated to the state of the world today.

Single colour screenprint with black marker pen scribbles over the top.

lovezine X-Mas Zine. 18.12.07
-
First installment of what is to become an ongoing project over the next year (2008). A publication produced documenting three young creatives' reponses to Christmas. Produced by myself, Richard Sanderson, and Will Davis, under strict time constraints of a few hours (yes, how specific) through the night to create and layout the content, then the following morning and afternoon to print the publication.

Over the coming months, in conjunction with Will and Rich, I'll be producing more publications in responses to other dates in the calendar, such as Valentines Day, Easter, St Patricks (maybe?), Euro 2008, Dada Month, Summer, and any other date we come across that may be exciting (or mundane) enough to produce a zine from.

This publication also doubles up as an entry for possibly the largest Christmas card ever, in the form of an A1 poster.

lovezine Colour Coded Record Collection. 01.09.07
-
I wanted to see what my small record collection would look like if organised by spine colour. On the left is my collection completely unorganised (but I remembered where records were and I would put them in a similar place after being done with them). On the right is the colour coded collection. After living colour coded for a few days, I tried to put the records back to their original order, from memory.
